Enquiry

How can one truly listen to another individual, or to anything? If we listen with our ideas firmly in place, or only to the point of our own understanding then we can never truly understand anything new. Another person is like a whole new place and in a homeopathy interview it is like travelling to a new country for the first time. If we expect that country to make sense to us in the terms of what we already know we will be unable to really understand and enjoy this new place. It is the same when we listen to another person. If we assume that we know nothing at all, and we listen in complete emptiness and enquiry then we can truly hear what that person is trying to tell us. In true enquiry we leave all our ideas and concepts behind and we enter into the world of another human being, or any new experience, from a place of wonder, awe, curiosity and learning.
It is in the unknown that we can really learn, grow and evolve. This takes trust, and a huge leap of faith into the unknown and into a new world that can feel uncomfortable and scary as we leave all that we know behind. But it is in this leap of faith that true learning, growth and evolution happen. When we let go of what we know, then the whole universe becomes our playground, and we experience true creativity and awareness. What a wonderful gift that is.
